This is Sela. She's the African Goddess Sun Goddess...
I don't quite know what it was, but I just HAD to do this piece...
It's been swimming around in my head for a couple of weeks now & I just couldn't resist doing it...
I'm intrigued by Dieties of differing cultures & this particular Sun Goddess really 'spoke' to me
while I was researching.. Don't know why...
My aim with this piece was to make sure that I at least attempted to draw a 'real' African woman/face...
I didn't want to do a white person with dark skin... I think I succeeded....
Oh yeah - and my new watercolours.... TO DIE FOR!!! I find them easier to work with & the colours are fab!
This is the first piece in quite a while that I'm pretty much 100% happy with. She feels & looks completed to me.
My new (yummy) watercolours on Arches A3 300gsm smooth WC paper.
Gold Acrylic for necklace beads, earring & sun motif on arm.
Progresso woodless coloured pencils for highlights & added colour on head wear...
Oh Lily this is stunning! The colors are just wonderful! Your sun goddess is just beautiful. I think you really did succeed at capturing a realistic looking African woman face.
Thanks!!!
Yeah, it's amazing the difference between the two types of paints...
I'm still going to use my old ones (cause I hate wasting art suplies) but I'm probably going to be using my new stuff more & more....
Aww thanks! I'm glad she's turned out the way I had invisionaed her to (it doesn't happen all that often )
I really like the colour combo's in this piece too. I guess it was my inner 'Fire Sign' calling to me... I just had to do something in fiery colours!
That's ok - now we both hate each other... We're even (almost)
And to think I got her done in a day (well afternoon/evening/into wee hours of the mornin given my current lack of a sleeping pattern). I haven't painted anything in a little while & just really wanted to sit down & get something done. (although, I really wish i had the same enthusiasm towards my current pile of half finished projects!)
Anyhoo, thanks hun!
As for my next one??? No flippin' idea.... Whenever it gets done I guess

`karemelancholia is one of the most genuine deviants you could ever met. Always active and a true deviantART cheerleader and supporter in every aspect. You can always count on her to lend a hand or get involved, and you usually will find her doing large amounts of both at any given moment. She's consistently reports on contests around dA, showcases the efforts of her fellow artists and shows her charitable side through various activities. Besides all of this, she's a truly talented artist which is why she's an obvious choice for deviousness this month. Read More

His house is in the village though;
